Seal Rocks Area
Seal Rocks is a small and rather isolated beach town south of Forster and 310km north of Sydney. It's
fame largely rests on the unique lighthouse and the sense of isolation it enjoys.
Once a very ordinary dirt road that was known to have sand holes through sections, the road is mostly sealed with only 2km of road to be upgraded. Seal Rocks is one of the few remaining coastal villages that have avoided major development due to a strong local feeling that it should remain unspoilt. There are some excellent attractions such as unspoilt surfing beaches with quality breaks, noted dive spots with a recognised grey nurse shark population (don't worry, they don't attack people!) and excellent fishing available. The BeachesThe first beach you reach is aptly called Number One, with Boat Beach around the next bay. On Boat Beach you will notice a boiler sticking out of the sand. It is from the wrecked steamer "The Rainbow" which sunk here in 1864, amongst 20 other wrecks off Seal Rocks. The anchor is also found outside the local general store which has been owned by the Horgan family for generations. You will also find Lighthouse Beach and Treachery Head to the south. 4WD access is possible on lighthouse beach. If you follow the road as far as it goes south you wil come to Yagon camp ground and another spectacular beach which is only accessible by foot. Seal Rocks has been dubbed THE LAST FRONTIER and genuinely lives up to the tag. Please call into the office and we will provide local knowledge to help you enjoy our beautiful area. Brochures and tourist maps are always available. |
